The Wrestler, a new film that tells the story of a retired professional wrestler Randy “The Ram” Robinson (played by Mickey Rourke) trying to make a comeback 20 years after his glory wrestling days, has pissed off some Iranian mullahs. One of the characters in the movie is a wrestler named the “Ayatollah”, which during a wrestling match scene, waves an Iranian flag and uses it to attack Rourke’s character. Then, Rourke’s character grabs the pole and snaps it in half and throws it into the crowd. Iran is accusing Hollywood, as they did last year for the movie “300″, of depicting Iranians as ugly and violent people. What do you think? Does Hollywood have a prejudice towards Iran? Or, is this just a movie and nothing more? Let us know in the comments.

I think it’s a side of both. Just like how 300 could have been both. It has always been East vs. West, ever since the wars with Persia and the Greek city states. So in order to maintain western bias toward the East, which in this case is Iran, movies like this are created to fuel it.
At the same time it could have started as just a film, and the negative depiction Iranians was added in later to give the film more credit to the American west.
Then again, I havent even seen the movie, so I could be wrong, but thats just my thought on it.

yup! no doubt hollywood has bias toward iran (and probably the persian culture?).
specifically “300″: how on earth they showed the persians as monsters…? i know it’s just a graphic, fiction novel, but isn’t this their mental image of the persians?
may God have mercy on hollywood…

Come on people,
Let us do a reality check here. The Movie,”The wrestler” was just that, A MOVIE! If this movie had any intentions of being real, then we better pack all we can into our cars and head for the hills, because thinking this was an insult or meant to be how Iranians really are, then Godzilla is on his way here to destroy us all. IT’S JUST A FREAKIN MOVIE!
I MEAN, COME ON! Every race, creed, and color has been put down, or praised in movies!
Barack Obama even sent a video out to all the world ( especially to Iran ) speaking of peace. AND HOW REAL AMERICANS WANT PEACE WITH IRAN AND ALL TRUE PERSIANS! Seeking to plead for the ignorance of a very small minority to stop putting out propaganda. Americans are not like “THE MOVIES” ! IRAIANS AND AMERICANS IN REAL LIFE, HAVE NO HATRED OF EACH OTHER!
The propaganda moungers want us to think there is a great gap and hatred of each other. And how do I know that Iranians and Americans don’t hate each other ? ? ? ? ? Because I am an American and my sweet, wonderful wife is Iranian!
